Pirelli riders storm the Isle of Man tt

V& M Team riders David Jefferies and Iain Duffus emerged
victorious from the Isle of Man TT with three first, two second and
two third places tucked firmly under their belts having exclusively
used Pirelli tires throughout the event.
Yamaha R1s shod with Pirelli Dragon Evo slicks powered
Jefferies and Duffus home in first and third places in the Formula
One race. The slicks, new for the 1999 season, utilize the same
zero degree belt technology as the street legal Corsas but benefit
from a special race compound. The Formula One result was the first
major victory for the new Pirelli slicks this year. This success
was repeated later in the week with Jefferies and Duffus taking a
1-2 in the Senior TT.
Further success came in the Production and Junior events where
street legal off the shelf tires have to be used.
Pirelli Dragon Evo Corsas were used in both races which
helped the team to second and third places in the Junior race and
first place in the Production.

Pirelli wins first pro rally in the U.S. with wild west win

Pirelli has secured its first win in the U.S. Pro Rally
Championship with a first place finish by factory-backed Noel
Lawler Motorsports. Driver Noel Lawler and co-driver Charlie
Bradley competed in their Hyundai Tiburon in the Wild West Pro
Rally June 18-19 in Shelton, WA.
Pirelli Rally tires have been extremely successful in the World
Rally Championship, winning three straight championships with the
Subaru 555 Prodrive Impreza Team. Pirelli has won a total of 17
World Rally championships and 108 World Rallies.

” The Pirelli tires were incredible” , said Lawler, ” they cornered
like the edge of a ski.” The Washington logging roads are
notoriously rough and rocky, but the Pirelli KM40s gave the
team a huge advantage, according to Lawler. ” The wider block
pattern allows the small rocks on the road to get kicked out which
put more rubber on the road surface. This gives us better grip,
better braking and better cornering.”

The rally action in Washington will be broadcast on Speedvision
August 23 and August 24.

Pirelli Tire North America is headquartered in New Haven,
Connecticut and is a subsidiary of Pirelli SpA, a worldwide leader
in tire products and power and telecom cables and systems.

Pirelli’s new Wheel & Tire Assembly Operation achieve 100,000 milestone for Jaguar’s new “S” type

The State of the art Assembly and supply operation based at
Burton-on-Trent has been supplying Jaguars new assembly
plant at Castle Bromwich, home of the ” S” Type, since the turn of
the year.
Towards the end of June, the plant assembled and sequenced its
100,000th Wheel and Tyre the 35 miles down the A38 to
Jaguars ” trackside” .

Pirellis Andrew Kearton who was responsible for the
implementation of the project and is now in charge of the plant
says ” With sales of the new ” S” Type doing so well, we have been
able to make steady progress throughout the first half of the year
implementing new technology coupled with the development of a new
capable and committed workforce” .
He adds ” Jaguars tough requirements meant that only the
best would do in terms of man and machine.
The assembly and quality control equipment, are second to non in
the world for accuracy and size range capability.
A unique solution has also been installed providing sequenced
deliveries into Jaguar every two and a half hours, this
incorporates a Barcode verification system and automated trailer
loading.
The technology however, has to go hand in hand with a dedicated,
and enthusiastic team of people willing to learn new skills and
provide a service demanded by an ever discerning market.
I think this significant milestone should be seen as the first of
many, so heres to the first million!” .
The assembly facility, part of Pirellis Logistics function,
now supplies 100% of Jaguars Wheel & Tyre assembly needs
which includes also the Saloon and Coupe models, the XJ & XK
for Jaguars Browns Lane plant at Coventry.

Currently, approximately 12,000 units per week are shipped from the
facility to Jaguar with an expected volume of well over 400,000 for
1999.
The tyres fitted to the wheels come in a number of sizes, ranging
from 225/60ZR16 P4000E to the Ultra low profile 285/30ZR20 P
Zero.
