Bridgestone/Firestone Tire Recall

Pirelli has been a worldwide tire supplier to Ford for many years
with supply agreements that cover the full range of Ford vehicles
including the prestigious Jaguar and Volvo brands. Pirelli has now
been approved as a replacement tire on vehicles included as part of
the Bridgestone/Firestone recall.

The customers affected by this recall are extremely frustrated as a
result of their inability to quickly obtain replacement tires. Ford
has selected Pirelli as a partner in their efforts to resolve this
crisis and work with them in order to ease the problem of tire
supply and the customers concern about tire safety.

Pirelli has reacted swiftly by immediately initiating a 300%
increase in our global manufacturing of the popular Scorpion line
of light truck and SUV tires. Due to the size of this recall there
currently exists a short-term industry wide shortage of the tire
sizes affected by the recall. We want you to be assured that
Pirelli is making every effort possible to satisfy the needs of
those valued customers involved in this unfortunate
situation.

Pirelli, Ford, and Lincoln Mercury dealers are authorized to use
the following Pirelli Scorpion tires as Ford approved replacement
tires for vehicles affected by the Bridgestone/Firestone
Recall.

Vehi cross takes lead in points chase

For years, professional racing teams, automotive manufacturers, and
adventure seekers
have looked to the annual running of the SCORE International Baja
500 as one of the
premier events in desert off-road racing.
Last weekend, over 200 competitors in a wide variety of car, truck
and motorcycle
classes participated in the annual classic held in Ensenada, Baja,
Mexico.

Friday, June 2°d provided thousands of spectators with the
opportunity to meet some
of their favorite racers while watching the race vehicles pass
through technical inspection.
The Land Racing Team participated in Contingency Row, representing
their sponsors
Quaker State 4×4, ISUZU, Pirelli Tire, and Harrah’ s Resorts &
Casinos.

Fans gathered early Saturday, June 3rd in front of the Riviera
Convention Center for
the start of the race. The third stop on the SCORE Desert
Championship Series
featured a rugged 439 mile course, encompassing every type of
terrain imaginable,
and requiring the ultimate in technical and logistical support. The
course turned out
to be one of the most demanding Baja courses ever, with an
attrition rate of over
50% at the end of the race.

The ISUZU Amigo, driven by Jim Winovitch and co-rider Paul
Connolly, ran hard through
the first half of the course, but ended up with front end
suspension problems mid-way
through the race.

Driver-of-record Bob Land, in the ISUZU VehiCROSS, was having a
great run with his
vehicle, with over a one hour lead over his closest competitor at
mile 350 of the race,
when a broken fuel line brought the VehiCROSS down for repairs. By
the time Land
and co-rider Dick Susag made the repairs, they were unable to make
the next
checkpoint by the official closing time, and the VehiCROSS had to
call it a day.

After the final results of the Baja 500 were collected, the
VehiCROSS moved into lst
place in the 2000 SCORE International Series Class Championship
Race, and the
ISUZU Amigo moved into 3rd place in the class points chase for the
season.

The team would like to thank its sponsors for their
continuing support:

Pirelli Pzero Rosso unsurpassed in comparison test

Launched in February and already a winner!

The influential German magazine SPORT AUTO recently conducted tyre
comparison tests involving 18″ tyres from nine manufacturers, the
results being published in the N6/2000 issue.
Alongside Pirelli P Zero Rosso, the products chosen for the test
were:

BF Goodrich Profiler G
Bridgestone S-02 PP
Continental Sport Contact
Dunlop SP Sport 9000
Fulda Carat Extremo
Michelin Pilot Sport
Toyo Proxes T1-S
Yokohama AVS Sport

The tests, comprising six different performance criteria, were
conducted in southern Italy at the Vallelunga racing circuit
reputedly ” perfect for testing” using a 286 bhp
BMW 540i equipped with the optional 235/40ZR18 front and 265/35ZR18
rear tyres.
This fitment, +2″ on the standard equipment, significantly improved
the overall handling characteristics.

The six elements of performance chosen for the tests were:

Dry Handling – lap time
Wet Handling – lap time
Aquaplaning Straight – threshold speed
Wet Braking – stopping distance from 100km/h
Dry Braking – stopping distance from 100 km/h
Rolling Noise – dB(A)

Not unexpectedly, all the tyres tested were comparable in terms of
Dry Braking.

In terms of Rolling Noise, whilst appreciating the environmental
and passenger comfort implications, the testers felt that, for the
UHP category, this criterion was secondary to the performance and ”
safety” related areas, with the proviso that all tyres realised
values below the 76dB(A) limit.
In fact, the highest recorded value was 74 dB(A) with a range of
only 3.6 dB(A) covering all nine makes.

Thanks to superior, all round, dry and wet handling, combined with
outstanding aquaplaning and wet braking performance, P ZERO ROSSO
was unsurpassed.

In terms of Dry Handling in particular, ” this Italian high
performance product, with asymmetric tread profile design, comes
out on top with its excellent steering precision, good grip and
soft load change reactions.”

P Zero Rosso brings a hitherto unattainable level of comfort to
ultra-high performance tyres, responding to the demands of car
manufacturers and drivers alike.
The conclusions of the SPORT AUTO test serve to underline
Pirellis leadership in this prestigious segment of the
market.
