P Zero™ Trofeo – Pirelli’s D.O.T. Approved State-of-the-Art Track Tire for Serious Driving Enthusiasts

Pirelli will introduce its newest ultra-high-performance tire – the P Zero™ Trofeo – during a 3:25 PM press conference in the Pirelli Booth (#41027) Wednesday, November 3, 2009 at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Marketing Association) Show in Las Vegas.  The Trofeo is a D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) approved state-of-the-art track tire for serious driving enthusiasts.

Trofeo’s asymmetrical tread features two wide central ribs, large tread blocks, an inner area with greater groove density and an outer area with a pattern derived from asphalt rally applications.  The P Zero™ Trofeo is the best of both worlds: a fast track tire that gives racers the flexibility to drive on the street to and from the track.

The P Zero™ Trofeo achieves improved grip, uniform contact pressure and better control at speed.  Its enhanced inner tread, together with its longitudinal grooves, responds to the demands of track, or road – even in the wet. Its center ribs provide added stiffness, and allow for uniform pressure distribution along the tread resulting in sure-footedness and increased driving comfort.

With over 100 years of Motorsport victories, Pirelli’s experience on the track played a key role in creating the Trofeo’s compounds and structure.  From its unique construction both front and rear, to its innovative manufacturing process, and even the changes in geometry and materials used for the tire’s bead – Trofeo is a DOT street legal race tire that gives drivers a wider contact area; greater rigidity, stability during acceleration and braking, and the peace of mind of having a constant and consistent footprint area at high speeds.

Pirelli Introduces World’s First Green Performance SUV, Crossover and Light Truck Tire – The Scorpion Verde All Season

A Green Tire.  Available Only in Black.

Las Vegas, NVPirelli continues to maintain its position as an industry leader in innovation and versatile fitments for all types of vehicles, and is pleased to introduce the Scorpion Verde All Season.  This tire, which is the newest addition to the Pirelli Scorpion Family of SUV, Crossover and Light Truck tires, will be unveiled at the Pirelli booth at the 2009 Speciality Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) convention in Las Vegas.

Scorpion Verde All Season

The Scorpion Verde All Season is the Green Performance tire designed specifically for SUV’s, Crossovers and Light Trucks.  It offers drivers increased performance in wet braking, dry handling, wet handling and snow traction, while reducing aquaplaning.      In addition, through decreased rolling resistance and an 8% reduction in weight, the Scorpion Verde All Season lowers CO2 emissions.

The Scorpion Verde All Season’s use of improved compounds helps deliver longer tread life for consumers.  It simply outperforms the competition with its optimized rubber to void ratio, special silica tread compound and uniform contact pressure.  All this means improved wear uniformity, which equals higher mileage and a stable footprint.

Green Performance – It’s all in the genes.

Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season’s Green DNA is evident both in performance and in appearance. Each tire has Pirelli’s EcoImpact icons on its sidewall.  The icons represent the ideas that make the Scorpion Verde All Season special.

Energy™ Efficient Lower rolling resistance = reduced fuel consumption = reduced CO2 emissions
High Mileage High mileage tire that gives consumers great value = saving them money
Clean Air Manufactured with HAOF (Highly Aromatic Oil Free) compounds and 8% less raw materials = less impact on environment
Low Noise Optimized tread pattern = reduced road noise

Pirelli’s Green Performance Strategy

Pirelli’s Green Performance strategy translates into new products and new production systems with reduced environmental impact and low energy consumption – all while focusing on quality and added safety.  Investments in technology and innovation run parallel to ambitious objectives such as pushing the green proportion of our tires from the current 20% to 40% by 2011, as well as offering mobility that joins added safety and performance to environmental sustainability.

Pirelli has come to market not only with new Green tire lines, but also solutions for sustainable mobility and reduction of emissions of diesel engines – including “white diesel” (Gecam™) clean diesel fuel, and Feelpure™ particulate filter systems. These systems, which reduce particulate emissions by more than 90%, are already in use in various parts of the world as retrofits on buses and heavy vehicles.  These were introduced at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing on municipal buses and are used as original equipment for new diesel powered cars.

Pirelli – Worldwide Leader in Sustainability

Pirelli’s approach to green performance and its position as a world leader in sustainability is recognized globally.  In the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, Pirelli leads the Auto Parts and Tire Sector for the third year in a row in sustainability, and was confirmed in the twice-yearly review of Financial Times’ sustainability indices for seven consecutive years.  In 2009, the Pirelli Group improved by 11% to a global rating of 88%, in a segment that averages 48%. These ratings come in part because of the efficiencies in production processes and in lowering energy consumption.  Pirelli’s Eco-Sustainability strategy resulted in its lowering of water consumption levels 12.7%, energy consumption 9.2%, and both its CO2 and NOx emissions by 8.9 and 14.9% respectively over the last four years.

‘Power is nothing without control’ is the essence of Pirelli’s products and action; high performance, research and innovation are combined with responsibility, safety, respect for the environment and sustainability. Just as Pirelli transitions the Green proportion of its product mix from 20% to 40% by 2011, its creation of the new Scorpion Verde All Season demonstrates Pirelli’s commitment to added safety, quality and sustainability.  The world’s first SUV, Crossover and Light Truck tire specifically designed for eco-conscious consumers, the Scorpion Verde All Season provides the added safety that consumers have been looking for – all under the banner of Green Performance.

Oregon’s Bruce Winn takes home Chip Foose’s custom Ford Flex in Pirelli, Grand-Am & Speed Promotion

Miami, FL – In addition to hosting the Daytona Prototypes and Acxiom GT race teams of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, Saturday’s Grand Prix of Miami also played host to the grand finale of the race-season-long Chip Foose – Pirelli Edition Ford Flex Giveaway.  Weekly winners in the season-long sweepstakes were treated to a day at the races, and then gathered stage-side to take the chance that the key they drew for the contest would sound the alarm on the Foose Flex.

oregon_news_miami1The big winner was Bruce Winn, of Hubbard, Oregon.  Bruce pulled the winning key that started the beautiful custom Ford and now owns the coolest Flex in the country.  The tune-in giveaway promotion was conducted this year in partnership with SPEED and Grand-Am, and required participating viewers to locate the “secret word” broadcast on-screen during a Grand-Am Rolex Series race, and then fill in an online entry form for a chance to win the race drawing.  Each race produced one winner, and then the 10 winners from the 2009 race season were flown to Miami from all over the country to have a chance at winning the Foose-designed Ford Flex in a special Saturday morning trackside contest.

“I felt lucky when I drew number seven,” said Winn, who is currently driving the Flex back home to Oregon with his significant other Patty Sweet. “I thought that was a great omen – lucky number seven.  I could not believe it.  I watched Chip’s video of what he did to make this beautiful vehicle about 15 times and I sure wanted to win.  Now it has happened and I can’t believe it.  I am really excited.”

oregon_news_miami2Foose signed the title of the Flex over to Winn right then and there.  The trip back to Oregon from Miami is 3,400 miles and Winn and Sweet are fully expecting to draw a lot of attention along the way.

“It’s a looker,” Winn said.  “It is a real looker. Chip did a really nice job on it.”

“This type of promotion is only possible if you have great partners as there are many details to sort out,” said Rafael Navarro, Director of Media Communications and Motorsports for Pirelli Tires North America.  “I cannot say enough about Chip and his willingness to get involved considering his very busy schedule, Grand-Am for their attention to detail and execution, and to Speed for the wonderful job they did in putting this all together and getting it on-air. We would like to thank all of the people involved in making this promotion a success and we couldn’t be happier that Mr. Winn is ecstatic about his new ride.”
