Pirelli has unveiled the world's first 30-inch, ultra-high-performance production tire for light truck and SUVs, in partnership with TIS Wheels.
 
Fitted to the Hummer H2 of extreme pro skateboarder and MTV celebrity, Bam Margera, the first set of these monumental wheels and tires were reportedly valued at just under $150,000.
 
"The 30-inch Scorpion Zero is not about selling huge volumes; it's more about satisfying a highly visible niche opportunity and making a statement in the market place," said Guy Mannino, president of Pirelli Tyre North America. "Our past initiatives in this product area have driven huge interest in 'plus' sizing on light trucks, to a point where 22-inch tires can almost be considered the norm. It's a little like the fashion business – haute couture drives the mainstream fashion trend and its entirely appropriate that the 30-inch Pirelli Scorpion is the haute couture of light truck tires."
 
The new 315/30R30 Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico features an exclusive "Double Z" tread design for maximum traction in any condition. The important footnote to the unveiling is that Pirelli claims it can produce small runs of specialized high-performance tires in its Rome, Georgia, manufacturing facility, based on consumer demand.
 
The Georgia plant exclusively produces the Scorpion Zero product line, offering sizes from 16-inch to 28-inch diameter, as well as the new 30-inches.
