Volkswagen of America, Mattel and ABD Racing Werks Build Birthday "Bug" for Barbie's 50th Birthday


MALIBU, California - Barbie's 50th Birthday got off to a bang as Volkswagen of America, Mattel and ABD Racing Werks presented the All-American doll with a custom 2009 VW New Beetle Convertible at Barbie's 50th Birthday Media Premiere, held at Barbie's Beach House in Malibu, California.

ABD Racing Werks was chosen by VW to complete the Beetle build, and together with Katzkin interiors, Foam Molders/Doug Starbuck handling the beautiful paint inside and out, and Pirelli tires on each brilliant custom wheel, Barbie's New Beetle had been transformed into a very special ride for a very special girl. With more than 19 years of experience building European-based show cars of all makes and models, ABD Racing Werks was able to build the perfect car for America's Sweetheart.

Barbie's New Beetle may have started life as a "plain Jane" convertible, however, after the entire car was disassembled inside and out, customized in every aspect, including attaching more than 300 rhinestones on both the interior and exterior, being treated to Barbie Pink Paint, and getting Katzkin to install a custom two-tone suede interior, the custom Barbie New Beetle convertible will be turning heads and making a statement everywhere it goes!

The Barbie Beetle received a new stance thanks to a set of Eibach Pro-Kit sport springs, and rides on four Pirelli P Zero Nero tires which are mounted on four white powder-coated custom wheels.

The New Beetle was displayed at Barbie's 3,500 square foot "real-life" Dream House in Malibu, California. A pink carpet was rolled out as Barbie and her celebrity friends celebrated the big day, which also included 3,500 mini-handbags, 1,800 pairs of Barbie sunglasses and 3,500 tiny pairs of shoes!
