Run Flat Tires Characteristics

Performance, Safety, Peace of mind

To a motorist, the Run Flat means safety. It provides greater control of your car in emergency conditions and allows you to continue driving safely even when experiencing a rapid loss of air pressure. With the Run Flat , a puncture will no longer limit your mobility. So, if your tire is punctured in the pouring rain, the Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat tire means you don't have to stop the car and mess with the spare tire, instead, you can continue driving until you find assistance.

To ensure maximum safety during an emergency situation, the Run Flat tire must maintain certain speed and distance parameters (80km/h for 80km or 50mph for 50 miles). Due to these restrictions, it's imperative that motorists be notified when a loss in tire pressure occurs. Beginning September 2007, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Administration) will require alarm systems in all new registered cars to detect and signal tire pressure changes.

At Pirelli, we've developed our own state-of-the-art Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to provide drivers with real time warnings while on the road. The K-PRESSURE™ system is available in 2 versions, Acoustic and Acoustic Blue .Both feature devices that are applied to the wheel valve and communicate a drop in air pressure to the driver through an on-board alarm system, with the option of also receiving a message via mobile telephone.

The combined use of Pirelli self-supporting Run Flat tires and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) such as  K-PRESSURE™  , gives you the confidence to handle your tire emergency and the time to reach someone who can fix it.
