J. Steven Carpino

J. Steven Carpino is Vice-President, Research and Development of Pirelli Tire North America. He joined Pirelli in 1988. 

Carpino began his career in the tire industry as an entry-level chemist at a large tire manufacturer in the US.  He worked his way up to Advanced R&D Chemist before leaving the company in the early 1980's to work on developing a petroleum coke creation process with Koch Industries of Wichita, Kansas.  In 1983 he joined Armstrong Rubber Company of New Haven, CT, which, in 1988 was bought by Pirelli Tire North America. 

Carpino was named Car Tire Design Group Manager at Pirelli and went on to assume the position of Car/Light Truck Tire Design Group Manager in New Haven, CT and Hanford, CA manufacturing facilities.  In 2002 he was named Director of Research and Development at Pirelli's new Rome, GA MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System) North American headquarters.  He was charged with developing product and technical support for the manufacturing facilities.  In 2006 Carpino was named Vice-President of Research and Development, responsible for OE and replacement product development and performance. 

A native of Missouri, Carpino earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of Missouri.
